After watching a documentary about the infamous suicide forest in Japan, while working I found myself reinterpreting it into this double sided work (at first meant to only be one-sided but with openings to incorporate whatever is behind the work as part of the work). The artwork was meant to be the forest floor where people could find traces of victims or visitors left behind in the forest.

Islamic Art Fall 2014.

Professor: Abdallah Kahil; The worst most insulting, rude unprofessional & complex ridden professor  I’ve encountered so far in my life.

His course wasn’t a studio but was lecture based. And he assumed fine art students can’t write essays so he gave us the ‘chance’ to instead make artworks inspired from an Islamic period. We thought he was joking and were excited to create works instead (I however gave him both 2 artworks and an essay). It was only when doing my (now paused) MA in Islamic Art did I see his ugly real pathetic side (he’s the reason I never finished that MA till now). I didn’t go without a fight though 😉

Thanks for your time ❤
