The Truth About Sharks

The Truth About Sharks is a collection of 9 painted and collaged illustrations about the many different facts revolving around the well know animal, the Shark. Each illustration represents different color combinations that could happen with the main color I chose (blue-green) or teal. The centre image is a color wheel.

Here are each individual pictures with each’s color combinations with blue-green used:

Note: The ‘fish’ in these images are my designs but the characters {sharks, orca, dolphin and piranha} were visually copied (NOT traced) from pictures found in books and the internet. However these characters were altered by adding scale patterns in some, minimizing their designs and changing or reproaching their coloring, or even changing their form.

This is an old project for a BA class and it revolved around the color wheel and color combinations, patterns and compositions (not character designs) for which I chose my theme to be about sharks.

Images that are a 100% mine are ‘Analogous’ (the cartoon one), ‘Split complementary’ and the Fish themed ‘Color wheel’.

Split complementary.

This picture exposes the pornographic intention of shark attack movies which, as a consequence, exaggerates the frequency and behavior of shark attacks and sharks.

This humane picture is a reminder of the shark’s animal innocence. It is frequently killed and hunted as an embryo.

This image discusses other beasts in creature-feature films that clearly where inspired by the fear and mystery revolving around Sharks mainly.

This picture shows a species of sharks socializing, in order to bring back some humanity towards them in the eyes of the ignorant public. Sharks have lives, companions and behaviors other than the killing machines human beings love portraying them as.

Color Wheel.

Self explanatory. This particular fish design belongs and is created by me. I used this fish in many of the shark images as a ‘cameo’ character accompanying the viewer and either witnessing or experiencing the many ‘truths’ discussed about sharks in each scene/picture.

To tie in the sharks involvement in our media, along with his representation as an embryo, here is an image that displays the Shark’s playful appearance in children’s media and cartoons.

This images is the truth about the sharks not only being brutish but also agile hunters. It gives credit to their swim tactics and determined pursuit of their prey regardless of many shark species’ large physique.

This pictures tells of the mighty shark as prey. It is discriminated against by Dolphins and killed on the spot through their gang attacks, and also it’s part of an Orca’s diet. The sharks who hunt and eat seals, share the same plate-space with them when the Orca’s placing its order.

Finally, the shark as we all know it. The frightening, vicious, brutal, terrifying and terrorizing serial killer of the sea.
